Reception for New Directors at the Norwich Mission House
      A new team at the Norwich Mission House in Port-au-Prince takes over supervisory duties this summer.
      Elizabeth Sipple becomes the acting director of the mission house, and Jillian Thorp takes on the position of assistant director.  They replace Nick Kocmich and Colleen Larkin, both of whom have returned to the United States to pursue advanced degrees.
      Dominique Georges, a native of Haiti who has been with the mission house for many years in administrative work, has been promoted to associate director.
      Haitian Ministries for the Diocese of Norwich, which owns and operates the non-profit mission house for travelers and other guests and for meetings and small conferences, invites you to a July 23 reception to meet Elizabeth and Jillian.
      At 7 p.m., Thursday, July 23, St. Mark the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Westbrook, Conn. (222 McVeagh Road) will have a Mass and commissioning service followed by a meet-and-greet reception in the parish hall.
      We hope you will come and share your interests in Haiti and the work of Haitian Ministries. We welcome individuals and parish groups.

CoventryFest 2009’ set for July 11
      The Haiti Committee of St. Mary Church in Coventry is taking part in “CoventryFest 2009” on Saturday, July 11a large community event that draws hundreds and is organized by the town’s Knights of Columbus and other service organizations.
      The event will begin at 3 p.m. at Patriot’s Park and will feature live entertainment, games, food, and fireworks.
      Vendor items will include T-shirts and other goods showcasing Haiti. Many other vendors will be on hand. There will be games offering prizes, a giant inflatable playscape, and bands that include Cruz Machine and Riverwise. Fireworks in the evening will top off the event, which has attracted as many as 3,000 people in years past.

‘Hoof It For Haiti’ 5-K Run & Walk on September 26
      The 2nd Annual “Hoof It For Haiti” 5-K Run & Walk is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26 at Saint Elizabeth Seton Church in Rocky Hill, Conn.
      The fundraiser begins—rain or shine—at 9:30 a.m. Registration can be completed beforehand or on the morning of the event, between 7:30 and 9 a.m.
      The USATF-certified course is open to people of all ages and to wheelchair participants. Awards will be given to the best performers in various age categories, and refreshments will be provided.
       Participants are encouraged to sign up pledges, and sponsors of the event are welcomed.
        Pre-registration (on or before Sept. 19) is $10 per person and $5 for children 10 years old and younger. Registration on the day of the event is $15. Registration for a family of three or more is $25.  All registration costs are waived with a minimum of $100 in pledges or a sponsorship of at least $100.
